“Dawson has now become a magnet for the creative class in Austin, and we have made major crosswalk, bicycle lane and sidewalk improvements,” says Cynthia Medlin, a past Chair of the Dawson Neighborhood Plan team who has lived in the area for over twenty years. “The energetic neighborhood association also made a big effort to guarantee that ten percent of any new vertical mixed-use housing was offered to those making only sixty percent of median income, and to beautify the East Bouldin Creek area. The efforts of the neighborhood association really contribute to Dawson’s present-day vibrancy.”

Nature and exercise enthusiasts enjoy a number of nearby parks and outdoor activity centers. Hikers love the lush trails that that traverse East Bouldin Creek Greenbelt. Nearby seven-acre Gillis Park features basketball courts and a swimming pool.
