Discover Jarrell’s Rich History and Embrace its Promising Future

Founded in 1909 by O.D. Jarrell, a real estate developer who made his home here. Originally, the town began to grow when the Bartlett & Western Railway constructed tracks that intersected an old stagecoach road. After the railroad was completed Jarrell supported two stores, a saloon, a post office and bank. Jarrell real estate owners enjoyed a booming economy, many new homeowners, and good times.

However, the eventual closing of the railway, coupled with an overall decline in the cotton industry threw the area into a long-lasting recession. At one point, the population declined to just 200 residents. A few decades later, Jarrell experienced a recovery and its population began to grow again. By 1990 the the resilient town had grown to 410 people, and once again demand for real estate rose, too.  New businesses began to open in Jarrell, including commercial enterprises such as light manufacturing, limestone quarrying, and other new ventures that have buoyed the local economy and made the outlook for the future bright. And as population now stands at nearly 2,000 and growing – naturally the demand for real estate is growing, too.

Quality Education with Gifted and Talented Programs, a Strong Athletic Department, as well as a School Choir and Debate Team

Folks in Jarrell are quite proud of their educational system. And rightly so. The Jarrell Independent School District serves 750 students who attend Jarrell Elementary School, Middle School and Jarrell High School. Jarrell ISD exceeded all of its performance targets as assessed by the 2013 Texas Education Agency Accountability Summary. The district offers students gifted and talented programs, a strong athletic department, and choir and debate teams. A sign of its now thriving economy, the community recently built a new Middle School.

Jarrell homeowners also benefit from the convenience of nearby Georgetown’s abundant medical care facilities. St. David’s Georgetown Hospital, a 98-bed full-service hospital; Scott & White Hospital Georgetown, a 101-bed full service hospital, both within about 15 minutes of Jarrell.

Join the Fun Festivities, Enjoy Endless Outdoor Recreation and Be Inspired by a Remarkable Community Spirit

In May of 1997, the town was devastated by a powerful tornado that destroyed much the Double Creek Estates subdivision and took the lives of 27 people. In the wake of the tragedy, folks in Jarrell got together and decided to donate more than seven miles of real estate to establish a commemorative park and build an event center. Together, the city and the people of Jarrell brought the vision of Jarrell Memorial Park & Community Center to fruition. With plenty of open space, there are baseball fields, bleachers, a large playground, basketball courts and a great picnic area.

Renovation of the Community Center was completed at the end of 2013. The building accommodates up to 300 people and to the delight of the area real estate owners, many special events are planned. And Jarrell always has a lively community calendar. A few of the annual festivals locals look forward to include Easter activities for children, the Family Fiesta of Fun, Jarrell’s Volunteer Fire Department’s July Barbecue and Street Dance and the Holiday Christmas Parade. Jarrell residents also love the parks in nearby Georgetown such as San Gabriel Park, Blue Hole Park, Lake Georgetown and Williamson County Regional Park.
