Pemberton Heights: Historical Homes with Distinction and Class

The Pemberton Heights neighborhood holds a special charm, with stately oak-lined streets and intricate architecture dating back to the early 1900s. A storied neighborhood where families have lived for several generations, Pemberton Heights is home to many distinguished Austin residents.

Located in central Austin within minutes of downtown’s eclectic mix of fine boutiques, exquisite dining and legendary entertainment, Pemberton Heights’ residents live in one of the city’s most captivating areas.  While the neighborhood contains numerous historic homes, many have been updated to include modern amenities and classic interior designs. Homes range from small cottages to spacious mansions priced in excess of $2 million.

When traveling abroad or greeting out-of-town guests, the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport is a quick 20-minute drive away. And the neighborhood’s central location makes it convenient to much of Austin’s best entertainment, dining, and shopping.

“Our neighborhood his considered to be one of the finer places to live in all of Texas and I daresay the United States,” says Anne Dilworth, a homeowner in Pemberton Heights. “It is a lovely place, and we have spectacular Christmas lights during the holidays. The neighbors are friendly, welcoming and fun to be with. This is a very special community.”

A Proud Community with a Colorful History and Excellent Schools

The Pemberton Heights Neighborhood Association works with residents of the community to enhance, protect and preserve the prestige, quality and character of the neighborhood. The association hosts social events throughout the year.

Part of the neighborhood’s charm is its history, including Pemberton Castle, originally built in the 1890s as a cylindrical water tower, which was then converted into a 4,000-square-foot mansion in the mid-1920s. It has been featured in numerous films, and (if the rumors are true) it’s currently haunted!

In addition to its prestigious location, homeowners are attracted to the neighborhood’s excellent schools. Students in Pemberton Heights attend Casis Elementary School, which is rated “Exemplary” by the Texas Education Agency, as well as O’Henry Middle School, and Austin High School, which received the well-regarded “Recognized” rating. There are also numerous private schools nearby, including Kirby Hall School, The Girls School of Austin, St. Andrews and the Khabele School. Austin Community College Central Campus and the University of Texas are also convenient to Pemberton Heights.

The park offers volleyball courts, disc golf baskets, basketball courts, a splash pad, a well-manicured playground, picnic tables and barbecue pits.

“Pemberton Heights is truly a distinctive neighborhood in Austin,” says Ben Freedland, owner of ZINK Collections in Jefferson Square. “It is a small but historical neighborhood where many of its residents are second and third generations growing up in Pemberton Heights. With its amazing lawns, old foliage and family atmosphere, this neighborhood is truly a beautiful environment to live in. Many of our ZINK clients live in this area and treat Jefferson Square shopping center as their second home, coming each day to see their extended families and to shop locally.”
