Wimberley: “A Little Bit of Heaven”

Nestled in the heart of the Texas Hill Country, Wimberley is a charming town with a vacation getaway feel. Conveniently located between Austin and San Marcos, residents enjoy easy access to downtown Austin and the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, both about 45 minutes away.

The sunny climate, wide variety of natural flora and abundant wildlife ensures that buyers who want to live close to nature will find it in Wimberley. This peaceful, beautiful setting has long been a retreat for artists, musicians and writers, and is often referred to as “a little bit of heaven” by locals.

Wimberley offers affordable starter homes as well as multi-million dollar luxury estates, and even updated historical properties. A quaint community, the town of Wimberley has a population of 4,000 residents, and is located in the picturesque Wimberley Valley, where cool clear waters of the Blanco River and Cypress Creek meet. “I really enjoy living in a safe community that has a close-knit feeling,” says Renelle Van, a medical assistant and homeowner. “I have it all living here: an easy commute to the city as well as the privacy and beauty of the Hill Country. I’m so happy I chose to buy a home here, it really is like having the best of both worlds.”

An Award-Winning Village Rich in History

The Village of Wimberley has been honored with numerous awards, including the prestigious TML Municipal Excellence Award for Public Works (which it received in 2012). An award-winning volunteer fire department and emergency medical service also serve area residents.

Excellent Schools

The mission statement for the Wimberley Independent School District, “Empowering students to achieve educational excellence,” is more than just a slogan. All four of the WISD schools, including a primary, elementary, junior high and high school have been awarded the “Recognized” rating by the Texas Education Agency.

Convenient Shopping, Homestyle Cooking and Talented Live Performers

The historic downtown area has many locally owned stores, antique shops and art galleries clustered around the Town Square and Olde Towne Plaza, with performing arts venues showcasing local talent year-round. Long-time local favorite, the Cypress Creek Café, is also located on the square. For more than 30 years, the Cypress Creek Café has built its reputation on serving delicious homestyle cooking and promoting local musicians.

Between March and December, on the first Saturday of the month, the local community flocks to Market Day — an event for treasure hunters and fun lovers from all over the state. Residents of Wimberley also enjoy the convenience of the San Marcos Premium Outlets (which are located less than 15 minutes away) and offer plenty of bargains and discounts.

Crystal Clear Waters and the Sweet Scent of Lavender

Homeowners enjoy beautiful views from the historic bridge over Cypress Creek and from the top of Old Baldy Hill. The crystal clear waters of the historic Blue Hole on Cypress Creek and the Cypress Falls Swimming Hole are perfect for taking a refreshing dip on a hot summer day. In 2010, Travel Leisure magazine named Blue Hole as one of the top 12 best swimming holes in the nation.

And the City of Wimberley has developed over 7 acres of pristine real estate along Cypress Creek into a nature trail.  Emphasizing the preservation and conservation of the natural environment, Cypress Creek Nature Trail Park provides picnic facilities, a water feature, a children’s playscape, pavillion, and public restrooms.  Locals also enjoy cutting their own lavender and wandering through the sweet-scented Rough Creek Lavender Fields.
