Retail Roundup: Northwest Hills Area Shopping, Dining and Entertainment

For groceries and everyday needs, people who live in Northwest Hills usually shop at nearby Randalls, or the Whole Foods Market at the Gateway Shopping Center. Gateway Shopping Center (featuring Crate & Barrel, the Container Store, Best Buy, REI and others) and the Shops at Arbor Walk are only about ten minutes form the neighborhood.

Northwest Hills is also ten minutes or less from the Arboretum at Great Hills, a premier Austin shopping destination with more than 40 restaurants and shops including Coldwater Creek, the Cheesecake Factory and Gap, among others. Another nearby retail center is The Domain, one of Austin’s most upscale shopping destinations with several restaurants and more than 100 shops and stores such as Louis Vuitton, Apple, and Neiman Marcus, to name a few.

Unique Dining Experiences with Diverse Cuisines

Unique to Northwest Hills, the Austin Terrier restaurant is a casual, fun, affordable kid- and dog-friendly establishment specializing in well-prepared, appealing, elegant but simple food. The menu offers specialty pizzas, sandwiches, and salads. They also serve signature items like the extremely popular Trio of Fries appetizer featuring Sweet Potato, Truffle & Parmesan, and Paprika & Mustard French fries served with spicy ketchup and house-made garlic aioli.

Zuzu Handmade Mexican Food serves refreshingly light and fresh Mexican food at affordable prices. For breakfast, many local foodies recommend the migas or ZuZu’s Picadita Platter. The Picadita platter is brimming with three gorditas (open-faced corn patties) topped with black beans, scrambled eggs, lettuce, tomatoes, and cotija cheese and also includes roasted potatoes and fresh fruit.

For lunch of dinner, frequent diners recommend the delicious Blackened Catfish Tacos and the Zuzu Salad — a crisp bed of romaine topped with a choice of chicken, mahi-mahi, shrimp, or steak tossed in a delicious, tangy, house-made rosemary-lime vinaigrette and topped with tomatoes, crispy tortilla strips, cotija cheese, and guacamole.

Other popular dining options in the neighborhood include Hao-Q Asian Kitchen and its crispy sesame chicken, and the Boulevard Sports Bar & Grill’s mouthwatering chili cheeseburger topped with the Boulevard’s own homemade chili.  Northwest Hills also boasts numerous coffee shops, gyms and other locally owned businesses.
