Austin in February 2017: Elegant Galas, Adventure Films and an Undie Run

Austin’s event cycle slows down just a bit in February as all eyes are on the Super Bowl, which is in Houston this year, and many organizations begin preparations for the massive South By Southwest festival in March.

But, that doesn’t mean there isn’t still a ton to do across the metro area.

The moderate weather means it’s often an ideal month for running events, including Cupid’s Undie Run and the city’s premier marathon. For those feeling slightly less ambitious, we’ve listed an art gala and an oyster festival.

And, don’t forget that Valentine’s Day is coming up fast on Feb. 14. Austin restaurants are typically slammed during the romantic holiday, so if you’re planning a special dinner, don’t wait too long before making a reservation.

Now, let’s pop open a calendar and pencil in a few fun events this month.

February 5

This unofficial national holiday needs no introduction. It’s the Super Bowl, and this year it has a Texas tie — it’s being played in Houston. Sadly, the Dallas Cowboys didn’t make it all the way. But there will be plenty of parties to see New England and Atlanta play for the big prize — or at least to see the commercials and halftime show. Kickoff is at 5:30 p.m.
