Escalera Ranch Real Estate: Gorgeous Views and the Natural Beauty of the Hill Country
Escalera Ranch is a community determined to preserve the natural beauty of its Hill Country surroundings. All homes in this Georgetown community are made of native stone, and half of each lot is reserved for native flora and fauna.
Building began in Escalera Ranch in 2000, and there are still a few lots available for development. The custom homes in this neighborhood sit on lots at least two acres in size, and some lots are as large as ten acres. With an average home size around 5,000 square feet, prices range upwards of $1 million. Many feature traditional touches such as large front porches, fenced gardens and tall, elegant windows.
“You always have a feeling of the country around you. Some homes have vistas that overlook the San Gabriel River Valley,” says Denise Lebowitz, president of the Escalera Ranch Owners’ Association. “All the homes have gorgeous views. We see treetops rather than rooftops.”

Even though Escalera feels rustic and secluded, kids get an excellent education. Leander Independent School District’s schools are highly rated, and Escalera Ranch children attend Parkside Elementary, Wiley Middle School and Vista Ridge High School. The Texas Education Agency has ranked Parkside as “Exemplary,” Wiley as “Recognized” and Vista Ridge as “Acceptable.”
Also, great shopping and dining are within easy reach. In fact, there are three major shopping centers within 15 minutes or less from home. These three shopping centers represent about 300 department stores, retailers, movie theaters, restaurants and more. Escalera Ranch residents can also enjoy a special night out in downtown Austin in about 30 minutes. Austin–Bergstrom International Airport is about 40 minutes from the neighborhood.
“We participate a lot in the music and social scenes in central Austin,” says Lebowitz, who’s lived in the neighborhood for five years. “A 20- or 30-minute jaunt down to the middle of Austin to enjoy an ACL concert or Perry’s Steakhouse . . . it’s no problem and we do that all the time.”
Home on the Range — The Perfect Balance of Privacy and Community
Expansive spaces, native landscaping, beautiful views and abundant wildlife. That’s what Escalera Ranch homeowners were seeking when they made this Hill Country oasis their home.
They sought a place where they’d have plenty of neighbors (many of whom are friends), but where the residents wouldn’t be on top of each other. They wanted space to spread out, and at Escalera Ranch, they have it.
“We like that the area is natural,” says Mike Burkett, a three-year resident of the neighborhood. “We like the fact that there’s space here. We can be with our neighbors when we want to, but apart from them, too, when we like.”
