It’s OK to be a little evil this time of year — at least with your decorating.
With the possible exception of Christmas, Halloween is the holiday that invites the most ambitious of decorating ideas. From haunted front yard graveyards to playful pumpkin patches, it’s the one time of year when it is generally acceptable to get wildly creative.
Halloween is a chance to express your childish creativity, bring your porch to life with warm fall colors or just send a shiver down some trick-or-treater’s spine.
Here’s a look at some examples of three decorating schemes: A classic look for those who enjoy the colorful side of the holiday more than the spooky stuff; some playful ideas for those who like to mix some humor into their yard; and, finally, some dark ideas for those who are more into demonic decorating.
Classic Pumpkin Styles
Break out the gourds. But don’t just plop a pumpkin or two down by your doorstep.
Consider carving or painting some pumpkins. Or mix in some flowers, corn stalks and hay bails like this. Or add a fall wreath to liven up your front door.
Get Goofy
Horror and humor go hand in hand. So don’t hold back on your goofy ideas. Who says that your house didn’t land on a wicked witch — or maybe the witch landed in your flower pot. Perhaps those silly skeletons couldn’t quite make it onto your roof. Or you can have fun with your pumpkins, like these that were aligned to make the body of a spider.
Even Scare the Adults
For some, pumpkins and gags just don’t do the trick. So conjure up the creepiest thing you can think of and give the whole neighborhood the chills. The right fabric, a lantern and a little creativity can become a grim reaper like figure to haunt your yard. Or some small ghosts around an artificially lit fire can summon people’s inner fears. Finally, you can go with sheer terror and surprise guests with a murder scene in your bathroom shower, like this.
Happy haunting!
