Old Settlers Park is often referred to as the “Crown Jewel” of Round Rock’s park system. With over 570 acres filled with amazing amenities for athletes, families, seniors, and children of all ages, there is never a dull moment in the park. The youth and amateur sports leagues have made a name for the park as a destination for their events, but there are plenty of other options for adults and kids who just want to have fun.
Old Settlers Park gives Round Rock residents a wide variety of things to do. Depending on the time of year, swimming in the Rock ’N’ River Family Aquatic Center is popular. In almost any season, residents relish walks on the trails, playingaround on one of the park’s many playgrounds, or using the open green space for any number of recreational activities.
Rockin’ with Recreation
The community spirit and safe, friendly atmosphere, in addition to its wide variety of sports and outdoor activities, make Old Settlers Park a favorite among Round Rock homeowners.
The baseball complex has 20 illuminated baseball fields, a softball complex with five illuminated softball fields, seven soccer fields and 12 half-size soccer fields, two football fields, 12 illuminated tennis courts, one tennis pro Shop, and two sand volleyball courts. These are just a few of the facilities that attract and delight visitors.
Other popular amenities include a professionally designed disc golf course, the aquatic center, two large pavilions, eight grills and more than 22 picnic tables where families enjoy gathering. Currently there are more than 40 picnic areas throughout the park. Three miles of paved trails are a pleasant way for residents to get some exercise while enjoying the fresh air. The trail winds from Dell Diamond, home of AAA baseball team, the Express, through the Soccer Complex past both the Rabb and Lakeview Pavillions across the lake to the disc golf parking area. Trail lovers get to see quite a bit of action during their walks, especially in the afternoons and on weekends.
Other main attractions are the seven well-equipped playgrounds, five concession stands, ample restrooms and parking, and a fishing area on the lake. The playgrounds are stationed throughout the park and feature bright, colorful playscapes. Children’s playgrounds are located at each of the sport complexes and beside the shady Pavilions.
Rollin’ with Adventure
The Rock ‘N’ River Family Aquatic Center located within the park is Round Rock’s main water park. A nice-sized wading pool for little kids is designed with comfort in mind. The pool is 1 foot deep with soft, rubber padded flooring and a canopy overhead for shade. There is an awesome frog slide and other water activities that can keep the little ones amused for hours.
The larger pool is very popular during the summer months, featuring a playscape and a single tube slide that provide a lot of fun-packed action. There is also a short lazy river ride furnished with single- and double-seater floaties. The Aquatic Center also features two outstanding water slides for the older kids and adults. (Riders must be at least 48 inches tall to use these larger slides.) Lifeguards are constantly on duty to ensure the safety of all swimmers.
There’s more. The park is also home to a regulation cricket pitch with practice batting cages. It seems as if almost every sport imaginable is played at Old Settlers Park. Need even more proof? A regulation Remote Control Airplane takeoff and landing strip with covered bleacher seating is available for those who enjoy flying remotely. Just another fun-filled option at this park full of wonders!
Love to fish? Bright Lake is stocked as needed by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Fish Hatchery program. Most common species are bass, catfish, and perch. There is one fishing pier, and you often see parents with their children enjoying the park’s fishing.
An Endless Series of Events for Everyone to Enjoy
Events are held throughout the year at Old Settlers Park. From the sporting events during the week and tournaments scheduled on weekends, there are soccer tournaments, the baseball Winter World Series, the Blue Diamond Tournament Girls Softball and Super Series Baseball, the Super Series World Series, UIL Cross Country State Championships, and Tennis tournaments. And that’s just to start.
Other events include Fall Fun Fest in October, Family Campouts, free “Movies in the Park,” festivals with live music and cook-offs, carnivals, rides, food and retail vendors, an Easter egg hunt, and, of course, the well-known July 4th Frontiers Day Celebration. There are even a number of themed adventure days like the Mud Quest Family Adventure. In Mud Quest, expect to get dirty diving through obstacles, more mud, and more fun. Adventures abound year-round at Old Settlers Park and residents consider the park to be their home away from home. It doesn’t get much better than that.
