Retail Roundup: Sendera Area Shopping, Dining and Entertainment

Whether running out for a quart of milk or an evening of fun, locals find Sendera is just around the corner from almost anywhere they’d like to go.

Escarpment Village in Circle C Ranch is a lovely neighborhood shopping center just a few minutes from Sendera. Escarpment Village bills itself as the first true “green” retail center in Austin. The center harvests rainwater in cisterns, employs solar panels for heating and electricity, and even sports a green roof with native plants for insulation and heat reduction.

And at the same time, Escarpment Village is friendly to pedestrians and bicyclists as well as aesthetically charming. Anchored by an HEB grocery store, the center also features a Starbucks, Great Clips, Postmark’d, Circle C Dental, and Dance Xplosion, among other shops and services.

Fresh Made Burgers and Sunday Brunch at Santa Rita Tex-Mex

There are also a number of popular restaurants at the Escarpment, including Austin’s own Waterloo Ice House, a family favorite known for good, cold beer and hearty food. Waterloo grills up a number of styles of fresh made burgers and chicken sandwiches. They also offer delicious salads, and they serve up some of the gooiest and most delicious cheese fries in town.

Every weekend, many locals head to the Escarpment for Santa Rita Tex-Mex Cantina’s famous brunch. Known for their huevos rancheros — two eggs over easy with ranchero sauce and pico de gallo — or their Hangover Breakfast — soft scrambled eggs with beef fajitas. Also popular at brunch are their Bloody Marys, Mango Margaritas, and Morning Mimosas. And for dessert, Austin Scoops serves premium ice cream and sorbet in a variety of pre-mixed specialty flavors including Key Lime Pie, Tiramisu and Wild Berry Mojito.

More Convenient Shopping, Dining and Entertainment

Another nearby shopping center, the Shops at Arbor Trails, won the Austin Business Journals’ “Best Real Estate” award in 2009 and 2011. More than just a shopping center, there are also water features and attractive hike and bike trails built into the park-like area surrounding the shops. Whole Foods Market grocery, Costco, Staples, and Jared’s Jewelers are among the many stores and professional services with a presence here.

Restaurants located in the Shops of Arbor Trails include some of Austin’s most iconic and popular restaurants, such as Torchy’s Tacos, Kerbey Lane Café, and Chuy’s. Torchy’s Taco’s serves a scorching lineup of tacos with clever twists — like the Trailer Trash — a fried chicken strip taco. But many frequent diners swear by Torchy’s incredibly good queso — a unique green chile queso topped with guacamole, queso fresco, cilantro, and Torchy’s own diablo sauce.

For an evening out, Alamo Drafthouse Cinema offers a unique and fun blend of entertainment experiences all under one roof. Theme-nights, first-run movies, in-cinema dining and bar service make a complete night out a one-stop affair.
