Built for the People
The Hampton Branch of the Austin Public Library has been serving the communities of Southwest Austin since 1997. Located just west of Mopac Expressway between William Cannon and Dick Nichols Park, the library was made possible by voters who approved bonds for the Capital Improvement Program. This branch was named in honor of Austin civic leader Will Hampton.

Walking into the lobby of the Hampton Branch Library, the natural light filtering through skylights in the pitched ceilings soothes you. A colorful relief painting of birds in flight surrounds a large bright window near the top of the atrium; the painting, by local artist David Everett, was created for Austin’s City Art and Public Places program and is just one of the features that makes this library unique.
Within its 8,500 square feet, the Hampton Branch features a wide, diverse selection of books, magazines, CDs, DVDs and more. There is an expansive section for kids, with classic favorites and popular literature for adolescents. A friendly, knowledgeable staff is on hand to help visitors navigate the library system and request titles from other branches and even other libraries around the country. The library also features a number of computer terminals and study areas, perfect for research and getting work done.
Storytime for All Ages
The Hampton Branch features an array of great books, programs and events, perfect for parents and kids to bond with each other, and embrace the art of storytelling. The Mother-Daughter Book Club is recommended for girls aged 8 to 12, and weekly Book Circles often feature crafts and book-centric activities.
Storytime for Toddlers and Preschoolers is a great way for young children to learn to love the world of books by engaging the little ones with songs, rhymes, crafts and stories.
