Events range from indoor recreation such as card games, woodworking and arts and crafts to outdoor activities with sporting clubs, or adventuring along the 9-mile network of hiking and biking trails. Rain or shine, fitness-minded folks who live in Sun City can always find a fun way to stay in shape with advanced cardiovascular and weight training equipment, an indoor walking track, and a lap pool. For those seeking more leisurely athletic pursuits, the center also features a billiards hall.
Crafting and art are popular pastimes in Sun City. The community offers a wide variety of classes as well as several studios with dedicated space for residents to work and develop skills in stained glass, painting, jewelry making, and textile crafts such as sewing and knitting. In Sun City, residents rarely see a day go by without a club event to enjoy or an activity to pursue. It seems as if there is an organization focused on every conceivable area of interest. Sport clubs include groups for cyclists, hikers, golfers, and people who play tennis, softball, bocce ball, horseshoes, table tennis, and billiards. The Sun City ballroom hosts occasional live musical performances, as well as the country-western dance club’s lively community-wide dances. A variety of social events are also held on the outdoor pavilion.
For those who prefer downtime with books, audio books and DVDs, the Sun City Library provides an enormous selection of materials available on an honor system. New resources are processed every other week, and residents’ donations keep the supply fresh.
