An Instant Austin Institution
Owners Chris Cusack and Ryan McElroy founded Thunderbird in 2003 with the aim of establishing a comfortable neighborhood venue for relaxing and socializing. Thunderbird now operates two locations. The Brentwood/Crestview location is in north central Austin along West Koenig Lane; the Cherrywood location is in East Austin, on Manor Rd.
Handcrafted Coffee, Beer, and Food
Thunderbird is devoted to being local-centric, serving some of the best local craft-brewed beers. The Brentwood location offers three local craft beers plus Texas favorite Lone Star on their daily menu. Thunderbird acquires its coffee from award-winning Cuvee, one of the most prestigious roasters in the country.
A stickler for details, patrons can enjoy the Single Cup Experience: For maximum quality and consistency, each cup of coffee is brewed in the most precise way possible. Coffee is weighed to the gram and the water is weighed to the 1/10th of an ounce. The café also serves espresso and espresso drinks, French press coffee, café au lait, iced toddy-style coffee, and Thai iced coffee.
Thunderbird also features a small but delectable selection of freshly made panini and salads. The Chipotle Chicken Sandwich is a popular favorite, made with grilled chicken breast and a zesty chipotle pesto. They also offer Tacodeli breakfast tacos, and an array of freshly baked cookies and pies from local bakery and Austin legend, Quacks.
