Hiking, Fishing and Championship Golf

Some of Austin’s most magnificent natural areas are within a short drive of Barton Creek West. The trailhead at the Barton Creek Greenbelt’s famous Hill of Life is about 15 minutes away. The greenbelt is an 809-acre natural area featuring trails where area residents can walk, run and mountain bike.

Less than 10 minutes from home, the City of Bee Cave’s Central Park offers a little over 2 miles of paved trail, a playscape for little ones (and another playscape for slightly older ones), a basketball court, a pavilion and shade canopies. One area of the park is designated for dogs to frolic off-leash. Also nearby is Commons Ford Ranch Metropolitan Park is a lakeside park that covers 215 acres. It offers a boat ramp, fishing, hiking, and lakeside picnicking.

In addition, Barton Creek Country Club, a prestigious private club located nearby, offers four 18-hole championship courses, tennis courts, a fitness center and numerous dining options.

Exclusive Shopping and Outstanding Eanes District Schools

This neighborhood is not only convenient to parks and the wild wonders of the greenbelt, it’s also within 15 minutes or less of the extensive Barton Creek Square Mall, the Village at Westlake, and the Hill Country Galleria. Together, these three shopping centers off more than 300 outstanding department stores, local and national merchants, movie theaters, restaurants, and more.

Barton Creek West residents also appreciate that their children get a superb education in the highly acclaimed Eanes Independent School District, a fact that drew many of them to the neighborhood in the first place. Students attend Barton Creek West Elementary and Westlake High School, both of which were rated “Exemplary” by the Texas Education Agency in 2011. West Ridge Middle School was rated “Recognized” by the agency.

“While we were thinking of moving to Austin, we did research and decided we wanted to be in the Eanes district,” says Andrea Tyler, an Iowa transplant and mom of two who’s lived in Barton Creek West just over a year. “We looked for a district with exemplary elementary, middle and high schools. Eanes was the one we decided on.”

A Dinner Party Celebration

Skillfully managing three steaming skillets on his Viking range, while also keeping an eye on the dessert in the convection oven, the dinner party host joins the toast offered by his neighbors, who sit at the kitchen island watching him prepare an elegant meal.  The neighbors are helping their friend and his wife celebrate their recent retirement from their medical practice. Both amateur chefs, the now-retired couple is happy to show off their culinary skills in their gourmet kitchen, recently remodeled with all the latest appliances and gadgets.

While the men chat about scheduling their next golf outing at nearby Barton Creek Country Club, the women refill their wine glasses and talk about the new jewelry boutique that recently opened at the nearby Hill Country Galleria. They’re looking forward to spending a leisurely day of shopping at the elegant outdoor mall. They’ll lunch at one of the mall’s numerous eateries, and start planning the ski trip to Vail they’ve been talking about for weeks.

“The people here are very social. It’s easy to make friends. We have dinner parties with people in the neighborhood,” says Sarah Fink, attorney and mother of four. “There are lots of community events, too.”

Lifelong Friends in a Sumptuous Paradise

After moving to the area for the schools, shopping, and of course, the beautiful homes, residents’ hearts are claimed by Barton Creek West’s natural beauty — the lush greenbelt and the meandering creek that borders their neighborhood. And they love being able to share the joys of the neighborhood with the good friends they’ve made here. The warm and welcoming community is among the blessings the neighbors are grateful for.

“I’ve made lifelong friends here,” says Andrea Tyler. “We all have kids the same ages, and we’ve just gotten to be really close. I’m so thrilled to have met such amazing people in this neighborhood.”
