Explore Fine Wines and Meet New Friends at the Onion Creek Wine Club

Moving to a new area creates a number of challenges. For many people, just getting to know their new neighbors can be intimidating.

We get it. With years of real estate experience, my husband Vince and I know that after the moving boxes are hauled away, the first real challenge for most families is to get out and socialize. That’s why we always tell our clients to get involved in their community / neighborhood. For us here in Onion Creek, the Club is the social hub of our Community.

“Since 1974, The Onion Creek Club has provided outstanding golf and amenities for members and their families,” says John Ferguson, General Manager of Onion Creek Club. “With 27-holes of championship golf, tennis, fitness, and dining, the club is a heartbeat of activity for this community. For example, our wine tasting events gives members the opportunity to learn about wine and have input into the wines we select for our wine list.”

Wine Club Events Are a Great Place to Learn About Wine

One of the best ways to get to know people is to share food and drink.

And that’s the reason Vince and I sponsor the Wine Tastings at the club. We believe participating in Wine Tastings is an excellent way to connect with people in our community, as well as a fun and informative approach to learning more about wine. As we look forward to our next event in May with a Red, White & Bubbles Wine theme, I realize how much we have learned already.

I don’t know about you, but I often here people say, “I’ll have what they’re having” when it comes to ordering wine. Learning the various regions, wine characteristics and suggested food pairings can be pretty interesting and exciting. We find it fun to explore a variety of wines and to discover our personal wine preferences. Previous events have been themed for California and Italian varieties, and we have all sorts of ideas to keep our events entertaining.

Onion Creek’s Wine Lovers Unite!

The current goal of the Wine Tasting events is to improve the wine list and enjoy special appetizers the chef is creating to specifically be paired with the selection of wines. Eventually, we plan to organize special dinners around the selections we made during the Wine Tasting events. Working with club member Joel Morales, a wine sales representative and Sommelier, with Republic National Distributing Company, “we select wines to add to the club’s wine list. As part of the agenda, everyone votes on their favorites and the winners make it to the Onion Creek Club’s wine list.”

“Wine tastings are a great way to explore a variety of wines,” says Joel. “The Onion Creek Club is a particularly nice setting and they are working closely with us to provide pairings that complement our theme or choice of wines for a particular event.”

At a recent event, we chose two wines to be added to the list. The Pinot Gris got the majority of votes with the Seven Falls Merlot coming in a close second. We also enjoyed the appetizer pairings prepared by our chef, Damon Bonewitz and voted to add pan-seared scallops to the menu.

Beginning in March, there will be Wine tastings Events at the Onion Creek Club every other month in the clubhouse. On those evenings, you will find Vince and I swirling a glass of fine wine as we welcome new members. Please join us to learn more about wine, your own wine preferences and to sample some of the club’s special pairings.
