Blackhawk Real Estate: Affordable Golf Course Living in the Heart of Pflugerville
Situated just northeast of downtown Pflugerville, Blackhawk is a 30-minute drive from downtown Austin and around 40 minutes from the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.
The city of Pflugerville has 500 acres of parks and 528 acres of open space with a vast array of amenities. Playgrounds, pools, picnic areas, trails and pavilions make outdoor recreation a favored activity. The city’s most popular “family playground” is Lake Pflugerville, a man-made 180-acre reservoir that has a 3-mile trail as well as a beach and water activities including fishing, canoeing, kayaking, wind surfing and swimming.
One of Pflugerville’s most popular residential neighborhoods, the Blackhawk master-planned community broke ground in 1993, and development continues today. Known for affordability and value, each homebuilder offers different floor plans, lot sizes and options. The neighborhood is comprised of five different, independently managed developments of varying sizes – The Retreat at Blackhawk, Fairways of Blackhawk, Meadows of Blackhawk, Park at Blackhawk and Trails at Blackhawk — each with its own amenities and homeowners associations.
Some of the numerous activities hosted by the HOAs within Blackhawk include the Neighborhood Holiday Party & Hayride, the Over 55 Coffee Club, an Independence Day parade and their annual Easter egg hunt.
There’s also plenty of shopping and dining in the nearby area. Right next to the Blackhawk communities, the Stone Hill Town Center features nearly 40 retail and dining establishments. For more extensive shopping sprees, there’s the Round Rock Premium Outlet Mall with 125 upscale retailers, as well as The Domain with 100 stores and restaurants, both within an easy 15-minute drive.

A major draw for Blackhawk residents is Pflugerville’s favorite golf destination, the Blackhawk Golf Club. Home to an 18-hole championship golf course, a fully stocked pro shop, a driving range and a restaurant, the course was designed by Charles Howard and U.S. Open Women’s Champion Hollis Stacy. “People come from all over town to play Blackhawk due to the quality of the course and the better-than-average prices,” says Nick Hill, assistant golf pro at Blackhawk. “People love the practice facilities and the restaurant. It is a popular spot.”
Following the natural features of the land and gentle rolling hills, Blackhawk can be a challenge for players at all levels of skill, ability and experience. Player development memberships and family golf memberships are available to residents of the Blackhawk community. “We have a great course and some of the best prices in the Austin area,” says Nick Hill. “Our player development program is very popular. There are unlimited range balls, free clinics, and excellent prices on the course.”
Beautiful Community Amenities and Highly Rated Schools
Residents love the golf course being so close at hand, although they also enjoy a year-round community swimming pool, fitness center with state-of-the-art equipment, an event pavilion, multiple parks and playgrounds, well-maintained hike-and bike-trails, greenbelts, baseball fields and a stocked fishing pond.
Blackhawk families also enjoy the schools in the Pflugerville Independent School District, including Murchison Elementary School, Kelly Lane Middle School and Hendrickson High School. All three of the public schools received a rating of “Recognized” in 2011 by the Texas Education Agency. Both of the elementary and middle schools are adjacent to the Fairways at Blackhawk, making it convenient for children to walk to school from that subdivision. Hendrickson High School is just a short 5-minute drive.
“The amenities centers are beautiful,” says Tara MacLane, onsite manager for parks at Blackhawk. “The schools are excellent. This is a diverse community with a lot of families, and we are continuing to grow.”
A Growing Community with a Country Feel
Blackhawk residents live in a charmed pocket of the Austin metro area where they enjoy exceptional schools, convenient shopping and dining, and desirable amenities such as the golf club and Stone Hill Town Center. “This area is getting more and more appealing as more amenities become available,” says Tara MacLane. “It almost feels like country living until you realize the proximity to I-35 and Austin.”
