The Blackhawk Golf Club is Pflugerville’s favorite golf course, located just minutes from the Highland Park community. Blackhawk is home to an 18 hole championship golf course, a fully stocked pro shop, and a driving range and restaurant. The Blackhawk course, designed by Charles Howard and U.S. Open Women’s Champion Hollis Stacy, follows the natural features of the land and gentle rolling hills, making it a challenge for all levels of players.
Conveniently located 10 minutes from the neighborhood, Lake Pflugerville Park is the ideal place for a full day of recreation. Swimmers enjoy the beach and kids of all ages have fun on the climbing playscape. Residents bring their boats or rent one for the day, and cast a line for some of the best fishing in Pflugerville. Hiking enthusiasts are sure to be challenged by the 5K trail that winds around the lake. The park also hosts a number of eagerly anticipated community events throughout the year.
“Along with our annual fireworks show, which we call the Pflugerville Pfirecracker Pfestival, the Kid Fish event draws the most people to the park each year,” says Kyle Benedict, an employee of Pflugerville’s Parks and Recreation department. “We just really want to encourage young people to get up off the couch and enjoy the outdoors.”
Highly Rated Schools and an Active Social Scene
Students living in Highland Park attend schools in the Pflugerville Independent School District, including Highland Park Elementary, Park Crest Middle School and Hendrickson High School. All three schools are rated as “Recognized” by the Texas Education Agency. Highland Park Elementary is located within the Highland Park community, making it convenient for children to walk to and from the school.
The neighborhood also has an active social scene with the Highland Park North HOA and the Highland Park HOA both operating in the neighborhood. Highland Park North HOA subcommittees organize and execute several events throughout the year, including neighborhood garage sales, an Independence Day parade, Easter egg hunt and holiday parties.
“The big draw for many residents is the focus on family-centered living,” said Mike Wilson, a member of the Highland Park North HOA. “But there is so much else so close, I can get to Blackhawk in just a few minutes, and be back home in time for lunch with my kids.”
