After the construction of a railroad nearby in 1887, General Adam Rankin Johnson established the town and started selling real estate in Marble Falls. The town is located on the banks of Lake Marble Falls and Lake LBJ. The falls, which were flooded by the creation of the lake, fell over a shelf of limestone that was mistaken for marble. Hence the name, Marble Falls.
Incorporated in 1907, Marble Falls made history in 1917 by electing Ophelia Crosby “Birdie” Harwood as the nation’s first woman mayor. This was 3 years before women were allowed to vote.

Falls Creek Park and Skatepark has picnic tables, BBQ pits, a canoe-launch area and is home to the popular 12,000 square foot concrete and granite skatepark. Scenic Johnson Park includes an amphitheater, three open-air pavilions, picnic tables, BBQ pits, playscapes, softball fields, sand volleyball courts, horseshoe pits and a boat ramp. There is also a designated leash free zone for dogs. Events held here include the Lakefest Drag Boat Races, Highland Lakes Chili Cook-off, Mayfest, Children’s Day and Scoutarama.
Lakeside Park is located on a lovely spread of real estate along the magnificent Lake Marble Falls. Amenities include a swimming pool, pavilions, covered picnic tables, BBQ pits, tennis and basketball courts, and boat ramps. As Marble Falls continues to grow, so does its healthcare infrastructure. Scott & White Specialty Clinic and Seton Marble Falls Healthcare Center both furnish primary care and specialists for local residents. Soon, in the fall of 2014, Scott & White Hospital-Marble Falls open. It will open as a 46-bed facility with plans to expand to more than 80 beds.
