Rich in History, Natural Beauty and Championship Golf

As one of Austin’s more established neighborhoods, Onion Creek’s history dates back to the 1850s. Present-day home building began in the 1970s within a 960-acre tract along scenic Onion Creek. Two of the three original investors were golfers, including three-time Masters Champion Jimmy Demaret.

Originally attracted to the area’s natural beauty and potential for golf course development, Demaret designed one of Austin’s most historic and beautiful 18-hole courses in 1973. Soon after, the Onion Creek Country Club and luxury home subdivision debuted in 1974. In 1996, golf legend Ben Crenshaw added another nine holes to the already impressive course.

On the PGA tour since 1978, the Onion Creek Country Club offers golf lessons, clinics, tournaments and outings. With six tennis courts and a junior Olympic swimming pool, Onion Creek residents have plenty of outdoor activities to choose from, including an extensive program for the neighborhood’s youngsters, including kid’s camps and events for golf, cooking, art, social etiquette and more.

A Variety of Memberships and the Centerpiece of the Community

Different Onion Creek Country Club memberships are available based on which amenities are desired. Currently offered are golf memberships, tennis memberships, and fitness/social memberships. All club memberships include use of the pool facilities and an open invitation to social events.

“Onion Creek Club has worked hard over the years to become the social epicenter of the community,” says Justin Jafarian, the club’s general manager. “We believe the relationship has been a tremendous benefit for the community and club alike.”

The Onion Creek Club features formal and casual dining with impressive golf course views. The club also offers full catering services for special occasions and ongoing member events including regularly scheduled Family Nights, Birthday Nights and Sunday Brunch.

“Not only do the club and our amenities offer unique attractions for potential home buyers, we also invest nearly $1 million annually in the maintenance of our beautiful golf course,” says Jafarian. “The golf course is the centerpiece of the community and greatly increases the value of surrounding properties.”

Friendly Neighbors Enjoying a Peaceful and Active Lifestyle

Onion Creek is a community with a rich history, a place where people of all ages can connect at the club, in a nearby shop or maybe just while out and about enjoying the beautiful scenery. It’s all about sharing in the good life, as well as creating memories and friendships.

The charm of living in this established community is accented by large, sprawling oak trees that provide endless shade among mature gardens and landscaping with a timeless sense of character and beauty. Rows of stacked stones line the sidewalks along golf cart paths. Wild grasses and well-maintained green spaces lend a sense of grace to this unique slice of Austin. Yet, there is the feeling of being in a vibrant, active neighborhood with kids on bikes, people walking dogs and women with big floppy hats gardening in their yards.

Helen Kerr lived in Onion Creek for a decade in the 70s and 80s and recently purchased a home here upon her return to Austin. “I love how peaceful Onion Creek is,” she says. “It’s an established community that is well maintained and very beautiful. I can’t imagine living anywhere else.”
