Jester Estates: Naturally Beautiful, Naturally Convenient
Joyfully racing a ski boat over Lake Austin’s waves and wakes, a silver-haired man glances over and catches his wife’s eye; they share an unspoken and blissful moment of contentment. Their son and his family have just moved to Jester Estates, the northwest Austin neighborhood they have called home for years.
Grandma and grandpa, both semi-retired physicians, are thrilled to have their two teenage granddaughters just a few streets away, and they’re elated to be enjoying an early summer day with the girls, who are excitedly discussing which of them gets to be first to try out the new waterski their dad purchased for their family outing. After the boating adventure, the family has plans to see a movie at the Jester Club, followed by ice cream and stargazing from their backyard patio.
“It’s just beautiful here,” says resident Ashby McDonald. “We’ve got a really nice view out of the back of our house. We can go hiking right in our back yard in a heavily wooded area that’s filled with wildlife.”

Bordered on three sides by the Balcones Canyonland Preserve, Jester Estates offers panoramic views of rolling hills, dramatic canyons and Lake Austin, making it one of the most enviable and coveted neighborhoods in Austin.
Jester Estates is only 15 minutes northwest of downtown Austin. Residents taking a vacation or traveling on business can drive to Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in about 30 minutes. Neighbors enjoy the easy access to Lake Austin. One of the few boat ramps on the lake is just 2 miles from the neighborhood.
The Jester Club is also a favorite amenity of folks in this neighborhood. The membership-only club has two pools, two lighted tennis courts, a basketball court and a children’s playground. The Jester Club hosts events throughout the year including a summer kick-off party and movie nights.
“People love the playground here in Jester. It’s a really kid friendly neighborhood,” says Terry Milan, Jester Club manager and mother of three. “And the beauty of the place makes it friendly for parents, too.”
An Active Social Calendar, Convenient Schools
Jester Estates was developed over a 20-year span, from 1981 through 2001, with homes ranging from 1,700 square feet to spacious custom residences of more than 5,400 square feet. A popular area where many owners choose to improve their homes rather than sell, numerous older homes here have been remodeled with updated design features and amenities.
The Jester Homeowners Association (JHA) is an active non-profit organization that maintains the community grounds and enforces deed restrictions. The JHA organizes and supports social events in the community, including a 4th of July parade, Easter egg hunt, Halloween party, their Neighborhood Garage Sale, and Santa at Jester during the holidays.
The “King of Jester” is a bike race up the steep hill on Jester Boulevard that homeowners gather to watch each year. There are also several active clubs in the community, including a Babysitting Co-Op, a Cycling Club, Dinner Club, Fishing Club, and Kayaking Club.
In addition to the active social scene, parents also appreciate that Jester Estates is a place to receive a quality education. The three schools that serve the community’s children — Hill Elementary School, which was rated “Exemplary” by the Texas Education Agency in 2011, Murchison Middle School, and Anderson High School, are each just a 10-minute drive away.
Plan to Live Here Forever
Jester Estates’ proximity to downtown Austin makes it a great location for commuters who need easy access to the central business district. The area is also convenient to shopping and restaurants. Just down the hill from Jester Estates is Jester Village, a shopping center featuring a variety of businesses and eateries, restaurants. And The Arboretum, an upscale shopping destination favored by Austinites from all over the city, is just a few minutes away.
The impressive recreational amenities, as well as the easy access to Lake Austin and the proximity to numerous parks and green spaces are two more reasons homeowners love Jester Estates. Wrapped in the spectacular natural beauty of the Balcones Canyonland Preserve which runs through and around the area’s hilly environs, many of the neighbors here say they plan to live in Jester Estates forever.
“I’ve raised my kids here,” says Milan. “I’ve lived here 21 years, and I know about eight families who’ve moved here, too. We all love it too much to leave.”
