Retail Roundup: Kyle Area Shopping, Dining and Entertainment

Plum Creek residents enjoy a burgeoning selection of restaurants and shopping as the town has grown. A series of commercial real estate developments have seen new stores opening at Kyle Crossing, The Village at Kyle and Kyle Marketplace. The numbers are impressive. Together, these developments have over two million square feet of retail and commercial real estate. Anchor stores include Kohl’s, Target, Lowe’s and HEB Plus.

As more commercial real estate is successfully developed, the more complete and convenient local shopping becomes. But when residents get an itch to explore a variety of other options, there are plenty nearby. Popular brands are always on sale for discount prices at San Marcos Outlet Malls less than 15 minutes away, and Austin’s fashionable shopping districts and fine selection of restaurants are also just a short drive from home.

In addition to plenty of nearby shopping, locals also have a growing selection of favorite restaurants to choose from. Two of the most popular eateries in the area are Matt’s Pit Barbeque and Veggytopia – a great representation of the staggering variety of restaurants in town. School children in Kyle attend one of six elementary schools, three middle schools and two high in the Hays Consolidated County School District. Three of the elementary schools are rated “Recommended,” one “Excellent,” and two “Academically Acceptable,” by the Texas Education Agency. The Hays Consolidated School District, with some of its finest schools in Kyle, has earned the overall “Acceptable” rating.

Parents in the district appreciate a state-of-the-art Performing Arts Center and their children enjoy participating in extracurricular programs such as an award-winning band, choir, visual and theater arts and athletic programs. For older students, Austin Community College Hays Center opened in 2014 as the first college campus built in Hays County.

State-of-the-Art Healthcare and Medical Facilities

Seton Medical Center Hays opened in 2009 to serve the area, and has continued to add beds and grow. The hospital is a general medical and surgical hospital with 112 beds, and is on track to grow to 300 beds. The Hays Medical Center also hosts specialists, family doctors, and other medical professionals in its large and growing professional building. Nearby in San Marcos, the Central Texas Medical Center is an even larger hospital with 178 beds.
