Spicewood is situated just 20 minutes north of downtown with the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport just a few minutes farther away. One of Spicewood’s most distinctive features is the neighborhood streets which roll gracefully with the topography of the fabled Texas Hill Country, highlighted by the natural beauty of the mature oak, juniper, mesquite and sycamore trees that populate the area.Spicewood residents also enjoy an abundance of outdoor amenities, including two neighborhood parks. Talleyran Park features a playground and baseball fields, though its main draw are the jogging and hiking trails that navigate through the sometimes rocky terrain from the park to the creek bed below. Alternately, residents flock to Mountain View Park to enjoy the playgrounds, tennis and basketball courts, as well as a pavilion for gatherings and picnics.“It’s great to have the two parks right in the neighborhood,” says Spicewood resident and mother Ashley Peterson, as she finishes up a game of tennis with a friend at the courts in Mountain View Park. “It never gets too crowded here.”
Well-Regarded Schools and a Variety of Real Estate Listings for Sale
The Spicewood neighborhood was developed primarily between the late 1950s through the 1970s, though occasional construction continued through 2007. This long period of development accounts for the variety of styles and sizes of properties in the area. Though there are affordable homes here, which are generally at the smaller and older end of the neighborhood’s range, Spicewood is also known for its larger homes and estates, which can run upwards of around $1 million.“Spicewood residents love the beautiful, secluded feeling of the neighborhood coupled with the convenient access to all the urban amenities, but the biggest draw is the school district,” says J.J. Jennings. “Westwood High School is among the top in the nation.”In addition to Westwood, Spicewood Elementary and Canyon Vista middle school are also in the immediate area. These schools are part of the Round Rock Independent School District, which has a stellar reputation in Central Texas. In a report released in August 2013, all schools in the Round Rock ISD meet the new State of Texas accountability standards.
Country Club Lifestyle with World-Class Shopping and Dining
Another major draw for Spicewood residents is the Balcones Country Club. An Arnold Palmer Golf-managed private club, Balcones features an 18-hole course designed by Bob Cotton that winds through wooded hills and water features. There are also seven lighted tennis courts and two swimming pools where members can listen to live music while soaking up the rays. Prime rib night at the club’s elegant Rio Grande restaurant is always a big hit, as are the new member mixers. All new residents to the area surrounding Balcones are automatically extended offers to join the club, while residents who move into the neighborhood farther back in the hills may request membership as well.
World-class shopping and dining options are also abundant in the Spicewood area. Residents can stroll among the fine shops and restaurants at the Arboretum or the Domain. Both upscale outdoor malls are just a short drive away. Z’Tejas, located in the Arboretum, is renowned for its beautiful hill country views almost as much as its tasty food, and Siena Ristorante Toscano is a local favorite for its seasonal Italian fare.

We love living here!”
