Milwood Real Estate: Growing a Lifetime of Memories
“My sister and her sons come here two or three times a week to take care of their plants,” says Marsha Jameson, a frequent visitor to Milwood. “When I’m in town, I love spending time together and joining in with the neighbors here. Situated in northwest Austin, the short drive from Milwood to downtown Austin is about 20 minutes and a trip to the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport takes just 30 minutes to reach. Milwood was developed in two phases. The eastern section was constructed in the late 1970s and the western section began in the mid-1980s, with the last few properties completed in 2003. Many of the homes feature oversized lots, as well as large shade trees and attractive landscaping.
The Milwood Neighborhood Association is an active voluntary community group that organizes annual events, such as a July 4th picnic and parade, garage sales and other more informal gatherings. Local outdoors enthusiasts enjoy the fresh air and sunshine at the 50-acre Balcones Park and Old Stage Park. Balcones Park features a swimming pool, water play features, playscapes, basketball courts and sand volleyball. The park completes its offerings with nearly 4 miles of hike-and-bike trails, as well as plenty of picnic tables and grills. Dog lovers take their four-legged friends over to nearby Old Stage Park, which is positively pooch friendly as one of the few “off-leash” parks in the area.
Top-Rated Schools and the Value of a Convenient Commute
In addition to its recreational and active social scene, Milwood is a great place to receive a quality education. Students attend the schools in both the Austin and Round Rock Independent School Districts depending on their address. Austin ISD schools include Texas Education Agency “Recognized” Summitt Elementary School, Murchison Middle School and Anderson High School. Students residing in the Round Rock ISD attend Jollyville, Deerpark Middle School and McNeil High School, all three of which are rated as “Recognized” by the Texas Education Agency. And Pond Springs Elementary school received the highest rating of “Exemplary.”
“My husband and I both work downtown and find the convenience of living only 20 minutes from our offices a wonderful luxury,” says Amy McDaniels, a Milwood homeowner. “I get home only an hour after my children leave school. Quality time spent with my son and daughter means the world to me, and we enjoy going to Balcones Park as a family. My husband works from home and we head out to the park as often as we can.”
At the Heart of Everything
Milwood is known for its charming, small community atmosphere. With the benefit of an active volunteer association and social scene, as well as two neighborhood parks and highly rated schools, it’s no surprise that Milwood continues to be one of Austin’s most popular neighborhoods.
“Milwood is the epicenter of Austin,” explains Frank Lozano, a Milwood homeowner for the past 5 years. “We are near everything in Austin. There’s tons of restaurants and shopping within minutes, and the parks and schools are great. My wife and children love this neighborhood for the same reasons I do. We love living here and can’t imagine being anywhere else.”
